FIRST DAY OF INTERNSHIP

Today was my first day of internship. My day was very busy and I learn a lot just the very first day. I accepted prescriptions, took patients information, handled prepared prescriptions, gave out filled prescriptions, managed computer system, worked on the cash register, and some other different tasks. Mostly things were all the same as we have studied. I was glad that I able to recognize medications, dosage and sigs. Interestingly I felt that medications are the persons who know me and whom I know.

Staff of the pharmacy remained very co-operative and calm with me. They were always ready to answer my questions and help me out in different situations. Also, I really missed Caroline Center staff and my fellows, my class, computer lab and dinning room. I found it was easy to learn in the class then to really work. I hope I will soon get familiar with this stuff and work routine then it would be more comfortable.

POSITIVE POWER

Today in our workshop session we discussed, “How to handle conflicts in a positive way”. Ms. Moten explained, compared and talked about possible outcomes of non-assertive, aggressive, and assertive behaviors. She helped us to learn how we can be assertive towards certain situations in our professional lives. Assertive behavior means, being appropriately honest, responsible, empathetic, respectful and respected. It’s difficult to be assertive but it’s not impossible. Slowly and gradually after practice every person can have it. And everyone should have this behavior because it’s a key to success in personal and professional life.

Below I would like to share a relevant thought:

“Whatever you give to life, it gives you back.

Don’t hate anybody. The hatred comes out of you, will someday come back to you.

Love others, and love will come back to you.”

If I behave aggressively this is what I will get in return. And if I behave respectfully, this is what I will get in return.

Being Optimistic

Last week in Life skills classes I was learning about having optimistic attitude towards life. I was thinking what can I do to BE and REMAIN optimistic/positive. Below I am sharing a thought, that helps me to become positive thinker and also helps me to remain positive towards my life, my self and others.

BE THANKFUL

Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire. If you did, what would there be to look forward to?

Be thankful when you don’t know something, for it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times. During those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations, because they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for your mistakes. They will teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you’re tired and weary, because it means you’ve made a difference.

It’s easy to be thankful for the good things.

A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are also thankful for the setbacks.

Find a way to be thankful for your troubles, and they can become your blessings.

MEMORIAL DAY

Remember all those soldiers, those presidents, all the wars we fought, and all the parents whose sons and daughters where lost. America give them your standing ovation and thank them for our daily safety. Thank God for blessing this nation with such brave and courageous men and women. Also thank God for giving them strength to persist in the fight and give there precious lives.

On this memorial day, let’s pray for the safety and health of the soldiers and honor them because of their great courage, heroism, sacrifice and patriotism.

Today half part of Pharmacy Technician Course and Certified Nursing Course had been completed. Caroline Center had arranged a ceremony to celebrate this success which was followed by a delicious lunch( Potluck). Sister Pat McLaughlin started the ceremony with encouraging remarks. Then Sister Marta Marie and Ms. Stephanie Thompson shared their views and advices with the students. After that students were given opportunity to express their personal experiences at Caroline Center. Then certificates of attendance were awarded to the students who had perfect or near perfect attendance. Ceremony was ended with blessings by Ms. Shannon Fritz, after that Sister JB Schammel took our group photo. Then together we had lunch and spend sometime with other fellows and staff.

To me this day was very important and memorable because I had completed half way of my journey (course). I was and I am glad that I had successfully completed this part of my course. Guidance and co-operation of staff and support of my fellows had made this success possible for me. So, I am Thankful to all of my Teachers, Staff, Adviser and Fellows from the depth of my heart. I would also like to congratulate staff and my fellows on this success and wish them best for the remaining part of the course.

PROFESSIONALISM

This week I would like to share story of Aaron Feuerstein, owner of Malden Mills.

Malden Mills, which makes fleece, a fabric used in sweaters and jackets, burned to the ground in 1995. Aaron Feuerstein, the owner of the Malden Mills, spent millions of dollars of his own money to keep all 3,000 employees on the payroll with full benefits for three months until Malden Mills could rebuilt. Feuerstein, a generous man who believes that his responsibility goes beyond just making money for the investors in his company, said, ” I have an equal responsibility to the community.” He added, “I think it was a wise business decision, but that isn’t why I did it. I did it because it was the right thing to do.”

To me this is a true example of professionalism. It makes me to think beyond materialistic things and “do what is right thing to do.” This makes me a responsible person and my work meaningful.

HOME SWEET HOME

Today our workshop topic was “Domestic Violence”. It was really an emotional and touching topic. After attending this session I was thinking about women in my home country. They are facing verbal, physical, sexual, emotional, psychological and economical abuse. They are considered and treated as weak and sub-ordinate human beings. Unfortunately they don’t even have as many resources to safe themselves from such abuses. Then I thought about women in US, I expected a different situation because women are more strong, educated and liberal. But here also, I found that many women are being abused. In fact, many women are being abused all over the world, regardless of how strong or weak they are. The print and electronic media is full of these stories. In most of the cases women are abused by their partners, family members or other relatives. I mean a house is a place where person feels security and safety, what if women is unsecured in her own house??? Partner or family are the most reliable support, what if they are the one to abuse??? While I was thinking; this question came into my mind,

“Is there any place on earth where women can feel completely secured?”

I feel being women we are the one who can make this world a better place for ourselves. We need to be strong and courageous. We can help other women who are passing through this situation. We need to fight for our rights and there’s no need to force or compel ourselves to be in an abusive relationship. First we should realize our value, then others will realize it.

If you think you are outclassed, you are. You’ve got to think high to rise. You’ve got to be sure of yourself before You can ever win the prize.

Life’s battles don’t always go To the stronger or faster man. But sooner or later, the man who wins Is the man who thinks he can.

GREAT OPPORTUNITY

Hello Everyone,

I am Yoanna David and currently enrolled in Pharmacy-Tech program at Caroline Center. The Caroline Center is a great opportunity for me firstly, because after completing this training I will become a certified pharmacy-tech and will be able to work and support myself. Secondly, Besides getting educational knowledge in my respective field of study I also have chance to enhance my professional skills. Thirdly, As I am from a different cultural background I also have an opportunity to know more about this culture and to improve my interpersonal skills. Finally, The staff at Caroline Center is very understanding and co-operative. They are always ready to help and encourage, which means a lot to me. My fellows are also very supportive and kind. There support makes me more confident. Altogether I am really having excellent time studying at Caroline Center
